Behind the Lens Series - Scoring the winning goal

Being able to be on the field capturing pictures is an exhilarating experience. Several years ago, I was down in Florida for a college tournament with my son. The tournaments usually take place in late January and there are typically college coaches there from 600+ colleges. For many soccer players, it’s a pretty intense environment because most want to move on to play soccer in college.

One of the games played was against an evenly matched opponent from Connecticut. The coach told the players to keep kicking the ball up in the air like a ping pong ball until there was an opportunity to score. Through three quarters of the game, the score was tied 0-0 until there was a break-down on the CT team’s defense and my son scored the winning goal. You could feel the intensity and the exhilaration when he scored. The whole team rallied around him for the score and he leaped into the air with joy and energy. The hard work, focus, and determination had paid off…and I was right there capturing the entire moment and scene! I captured him blasting the ball and you can see in the picture the young man from the other team the slipped and fell, allowing the opening to score the goal!
